As cloistered Dominican nuns, we live the traditional monastic observances. To learn about the various aspects of
Dominican monastic life, click on the words below to see photos and read texts from the Book of the Constitutions
of the Nuns of the Order of Preachers (LCM).
St. Dominic “rarely spoke except with God in prayer, or about God, and he exhorted the brethren to do likewise.”
Pondering this in their hearts, the nuns should make of their house, and especially their hearts, a place of silence. (LCM 46:I)
We keep silence throughout the day, but not in a rigid manner. If there is a need to speak, we do so quietly and briefly.
Certain areas of the house and grounds are more inclined to silence, such as the main hallway, dormitory, and cemetery.
